EL PRADO MUSEUM:
This Madrid art gallery boasts
the most complete collection of Spanish painting from the 11th to the
18th centuries, as well as numerous masterpieces by great, universally
renowned painters such as El Greco, Velázquez, Goya, Hieronymus Bosch,
Titian, Van Dyck and Rembrandt.
Due to the quality and rich variety of its collections, the Prado is
one of the finest museums in the world. It holds the best collection of
Spanish painting, the most important works of Flemish and Italian
painting, and outstanding examples of the German, French and British
schools. Its halls are hung with great masterpieces of universal art,
such as Las Meninas by Velázquez, Goya’s Majas, Gentleman with his Hand
on his Breast by El Greco, The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus
Bosch, and Ruben’s The Three Graces, plus numerous other priceless
works.
Although the museum was created to display painting and sculpture, it
also boasts several important collections of drawings, engravings,
coins and medals, as well as examples of the sumptuary and decorative
arts.
